Is the scholarly record preserved for the future? Not quite yet… this is very much a work in progress, and there are additional steps each of us (and our organizations!) can take to play our role. Mikael Laakso will present new research on the preservation status of Open Access books and make recommendations to all stakeholders. Gaelle Bequet will describe the roles that indexing services, hosting platforms, and preservation services can play in improving the long-term availability of Open Access journals. Jason Colman will describe University of Michigan efforts to align preservation efforts underway in academic departments, library, and press. Alicia Wise will share progress from a working group of libraries and preservation services to review the strengths and weaknesses of license clauses in agreements between libraries and publishers that cover long-term preservation.

Alicia Wise is Executive Director of CLOCKSS where research libraries and academic publishers come together to ensure the long-term preservation of the scholarly record. She has been active in increasing access to research information for 20 years in roles within our publishing community (e.g. with Elsevier, the Publishers Association, the Publishers Licensing Service) and also within the library community (e.g. Jisc, a range of universities). Her Ph.D. is in Anthropology where her research focussed on the Roman invasion of Scotland and resistance to this.
Gaelle Bequet holds a PhD in LIS from Sorbonne University. She published a book about the development of digital libraries in Austria, France and the UK in 2014. She was appointed Director of the ISSN International Centre in 2014. She is also the Chair of ISO TC 46 Information and Documentation. She likes PIDs and Cuban salsa.
I lead the Publishing Services division at Michigan Publishing, including our work with publishers on the Fulcrum platform. I am a Librarian at the University of Michigan Library.
