The presenter will share a summary and update on her Fulbright Scholar project. She is working with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Kinigi, Rwanda. As part of the Fulbright Scholar Program’s Africa Regional Research Program, she is partnering with the Karisoke Research Center, a program of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, Inc (DFGF) and located in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park. The research consists of assessing the range of past and currently covered research fields by DFGF and of collaborations, and developing tools that help monitor, document, and evaluate the impact on various fields of research and the strength of collaboration in the key field of conservation for future research management and targeted collaboration network expansion. The research also includes planning for a library at DFGF’s new Ellen DeGeneres Campus by applying library science research methodologies in the areas of public services, library instruction, and collection development. This session will discuss the process of applying and participating in the Fulbright Scholar program and summarize the project details and outcomes.
Hilary is third year MLIS student at San José State University in California where she is a graduate research assistant in Digital Ethics & AI. Her studies focus on Archives & Cultural Heritage Management from ethical, practical, and policy perspectives. She holds a MA Ed in College Student Development & Services from Virginia Tech, and a double BA in English Literature and Revolutionary History. Hilary lives in Portland, Oregon where she is Sustainability Manager at a local startup company.
Joy is an MLIS student at San José State University, working towards a pathway in Information Architecture & Organization. She holds a BA in Technical Writing from San Francisco State University and worked as a technical writer in the financial industry. She currently works as a library assistant in an elementary school, and volunteers as a reading tutor in a nearby school district. Joy lives in the Bay Area, California with her family.
Mary Ellen is the Science librarian at Middle Tennessee State University. Her research interests are collection development, data science, data management and visualization, scholarly communication, research impact, electronic resources management, web site usability, and information literacy. She received a Fulbright Scholar Award in fall 2022 to partner with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to perform research evaluation and develop the library on the new Ellen DeGeneres campus in Kinigi, Rwanda.
