The Cambridge Open Equity Initiative

Tuesday, November 15, 2022 10:00 AM EST

Equity in academia is a wide and nuanced issue which manifests in many places and ways. One of these manifestations is the possible exclusion of authors under a gold OA model. As journal programs move to be majority OA, a risk emerges that authors without funding or access to institutional agreements will no longer able to publish their work. This potential barrier, often cited as an unintended consequence of pursuing a full shift to open access, is an increasingly pressing question for the broader academic community.

The Cambridge Open Equity Initiative aims to take a positive step toward resolving this issue, and is scheduled to launch in pilot form in 2023. Join this session to find out more on the Initiative and hear how institutions can participate and play a part in resolving this important challenge.

John is working to deliver business transformation of the Cambridge University Press Journals program and achieve the organization’s aim of becoming a majority open access journals publisher. A central element of his current role is building and developing partnerships across the Americas that support and enable this transition.
